Personality: Vincent is a cold and somewhat brooding man. He carries a weight on his shoulders of his past deeds that, even after so many years, he has still not come to terms with what he did, or more so, failed to do in his past.
Vincent is very withdrawn and other than the fact that he has his own agenda to settle with Shinra, as well as Sephiroth, he does not seem to care much for others, nor their concerns and seldom offers help or even a hint of a smile. Although he was known in his early life for his great sense of humor, it has now become twisted, showing itself in the least appropriate way. Vincent can cause fear in just about anyone with his intimidating stare. This gives him an initiative advantage should his enemies look him in the eye.
He is full of conflict as easily angered and offended by those who point out his inhumanity or refer to him as a vampire. Yet, he makes little effort in discouraging such statements. Angering him is a risky business, as he can easily transform into one of his deadly demons. Still, under his dark exterior is a good and even friendly person, trying to overcome his tormented past in order to find his true self once more.
He can be at times chivalrous, and spends quite a bit of time wandering the streets of the bad parts of town to serve as a vigilante force, protecting women and children with his partner, Kaleapheia, also the only woman who has managed to capture his heart since his one true love, Lucretia, mother Sephiroth. He is highly claustrophobic, but will keep this secret at all costs. He has deep distrust of scientists and doctors.

History: About 25 to thirty years ago, Vincent was once a member of the Turks, which was part of Shinra's Department of Administrative Research. He assigned to supervise the Jenova Project in Nibelheim, and there he met Lucrecia Crescent, a scientist he later fell in love with. Later the discovered her link to his deceased father, and ultimately led to her entering a relationship with her associate Professor Hojo.
Vincent objected to the use of humans as test subjects, especially Lucrecia. Outraged, Vincent confronted Hojo in the underground laboratory with Hojo ending it with treachery and shooting Vincent in the head. He then used Vincent's half-dead body as the subject for experiments involving strengthening the endurance of the human body, and metamorphosis, enabling the body to transform into monstrous forms.
Although Vincent’s body becomes stronger, Vincent dies during the procedure and his first love, Lucrecia, used her knowledge about Chaos to resuscitate him by infusing the Chaos-tainted Mako into him. The procedure worked, as Vincent's body, due to Hojo's previous experiments was strong enough to become a Chaos vessel. The Protomateria allowed Vincent was able to control Chaos.
Believing himself responsible for Lucrecia's illness, he locked himself inside a coffin in the basement of Shinra Mansion, where he slept mostly undisturbed for 28 years to atone for his "sins". He constantly relived his "nightmare" for these years as a punishment for not saving Lucrecia from Hojo's experiments on her unborn baby.
During the year following his awakening, and after the battle against Sephiroth, Vincent traveled the world, retrieving information and helping those in need, keeping loose contact with his friends. Eventually he followed rumors to the Forgotten Capital, where the Remnants of Sephiroth were located. After Tseng and Elena were struck down by the trio at the Northern Crater, Vincent rescued them and helped them recover, while getting as much information about the remnants as he could.
When Kadaj began to fight Cloud in the Forgotten City, Vincent rushed in and opened fire, while picking up Cloud and carrying him to safety. Resting in a remote part of the forest, Vincent relayed information about the Geostigma to Cloud, and the impending rebirth of Sephiroth.
