Marlene is a shy and sensitive girl, but seems to have come out of her shell a bit over the past two years. She, along with Denzel and other children orphaned in the aftermath of Meteor, live with Tifa in an apartment above Tifa's rebuilt Seventh Heaven Bar.
Though she timid by nature, Marlene is fully capable of making her opinion known, especially when she is fed up with the actions (or inaction) of the adults in her life.

History:
Marlene is actually the daughter of Dyne and Eleanor, friends of Barret's. Barret had taken Marlene in as his own daughter after his friend Dyne, his hometown Corel, and loved ones were destroyed by Shinra troops. As Marlene was less than a year old when her town was burned to the ground and her mother was killed, she has no memory of her biological parents.
When Marlene was four years old, she took on the job of looking after Tifa Lockhart's bar whenever Tifa was on a mission with the Avalanche. In the group were her two friends named Cloud Strife,and Barret Wallace.
One day when Tifa was gone the turks want to take Marlene,but Aerith Gainsborough a Cetra took her place so that she would be same.She is later left with Elmyra Gainsborough, Aerith's adoptive mother and was held for ransom by the Shinra spy Cait Sith to force Cloud to cooperate with him on their journey to the Temple of the Ancients.
Advent Children
Marlene Wallace,now 6 years old and was the only child that wasn't infected with the sickness Geostigma. While Cloud was away Marlene helps Tifa take care of Denzel a boy who she was close friends with, and who was infected with Geostigma. Later on she went with Tifa to Aerith's church to look for Cloud, but was abducted by Loz and taken, with the other children from Edge, to the Forgotten City.
While there she saw Kadaj mess with the Geostigma infection even more inside the children,and Denzel. She was forced to watch Cloud fight the three brothers Kadaj,Loz, and Yazoo while in the city. When the battle ended she somehow got away ,and told Cloud that he doesn't pay any attention to her Tifa, or the others anymore. Cloud knew it was true, and took Marlene back home to the bar showing he has changed just a bit.
Later on when Cloud was fighting Sephiroth Marlene sensed Aerith once more,safely back in Edge with Denzel. When Cloud saved the world once more he was about to head to the life stream, but Aerith,and Zack say that it wasn't his time. Soon after he was brought back to life inside Aerith's church, and saw Marlene holding Barret's hand, showing their bond was still strong even though they don't see each other much. Soon after things got back to its normal rotation of happiness
