Marlene was sitting on a rock there in the Ancient forest. This was the only place she knew where she could be alone a place to cry. It wasn’t long ago that she was kidnapped by one of the remnant brothers and brought there.
She was so terrified that night that she could do a thing but watch Denzel and the other kids as they were controlled by them. She was frozen in her place but once she saw Cloud and Vincent She got the courage and the chance to escape. But now she was back here …
Why well she just needed a place to be alone so she could cry. She couldn’t do that in front of Tifa that would only worry her. That was the last thing Marlene wanted. So she came here a place she thought she would be alone to cry and let her feelings out.

Vincent moved slowly through the place that he called home, the forests that were almost as empty as he was. It was dangerous, a place you didn’t go if you didn’t know the way home, that was why Vincent loved it so, it was part of him, it was close to his core, his soul. It was like him in more ways than one, especially the empty part.
He moved between the trees, his body weaving through each one in his small red mass of mist, he was moving with the winds, following the currents, just needing to be away from the world, even for a while. But then he saw the small shape, something that stood out in the forests he knew so well. It took him a moment to recognize the young girl, the one from Tifa and Clouds home… Marlene...
Moving towards a nearby tree, moving onto the branch as he turned into his original form. Sitting for a moment, just watching the young girl. What was he meant to do with this now? She was a exception, something that he didnt want to hurt, but he couldnt understand her either. He turned his head, moving off the branch as he moved to the floor, landing softly as he pulled his cloak slightly over his shoulder,
“...Didnt expect to find anyone here...” His voice was quiet, not wanting to frighten her, but by the looks of it, she wanted to be alone, why else would she have come all the way out here? He took a small step closer, his hands moving to his sides as he looked down at her, licking his lips softly as he took a small breath.
“You need someone to just listen Marlene?”

“...Didnt expect to find anyone here...”
"Vincent..." Marlene muttered wiping her tears as soon as she heard his voice. She didn’t want him to know that she was crying but it was as clear as day. "I just..." But the words never came to her why would she be out there in the middle of no where... to be alone so she could cry but that she couldn’t say.
"What are you doing out here?" she asked changing the subject as she forced a weak smile on her lips. She hoped he didn’t notice how red her eyes were or how weak she was now. But the look on his face told him he has.
“You need someone to just listen Marlene?”
"Vincent I ..." what should she say. Marlene bottled that emotions deep inside her heart and now she felt as if she it was about to burst out but she like Tifa didn’t want to worry anyone. That was why she ran to this place...

Vincent sighed softly, looking over the barren forest before him, if a forest could be barren that is. He knew Marlene well, even if he’d learnt everything that he needed from Tifa and Cloud, that was more than enough for Vincent. He didnt know how to deal with children... not children. They were something else, something Vincent could never understand, that innocence, that truly been pure of heart, and if there was anyone that was word for word that definition... it was Marlene.
“What am I doing out here? I live here... remember?” He tilted his head, moving past the younger girl, moving to the base of one of the white trees, leaning against it as he sighed. He wasn’t too far away from the young girl, but not right up close either. Just close enough as far as Vincent was concerned. His crimson gaze moved over the young girl, more as an older brother than anything else. It was the only feeling that he could remember having felt before. He wanted to help, he really did... but how was he going to do that?
“Vincent I...”
“Yes Marlene?” He tilted his head, trying to not come across as uncaring as he seemed, and he was working harder this time than any before. He wanted Marlene to trust him with this, it was all to obvious that something was wrong, but by the looks of the world today, people hated when you asked what was wrong, and got even more upset if you told them that you just knew that something wasn’t right,
“You don’t need to worry about me... But it is better to get if off your chest... whatever may be bothering you...”
He slipped down the side of the tree, sitting on the floor as he stretched out, his armoured feet clanking softly as he leaned his head bad, closing his eyes for a moment. Maybe he needed to start... maybe that was how all this worked, he needed to get Marlene to see that talking about this, whatever it was, was a good thing... but how?
“You know... I'm starting to worry...” He looked over at Marlene, knowing that she wouldnt see him lying, and he knew that he wasn’t worried, not yet anyway, “Everything thats happening... I don’t want anyone getting hurt”

“Yes Marlene?”
Marlene paused wiping her tears before looking at Vincent. She didn’t know what to say. Should she tell him what was on her mind… what frightened her?
“You don’t need to worry about me... But it is better to get if off your chest... whatever may be bothering you...”
She remained silent looking out at the distant as the breeze blew gently on her skin. Yes she was afraid no it was more than that but what could she say or do. She came here to be alone and cry thinking that was the best way to let things out. Another tear fell from her eye but she immediately wiped it before looking back at Vincent.
“You know... I'm starting to worry...”
"Its nothing…" She lied lowering her head. She wanted to say something she wanted to let it out but her fear was stopping her.
“Everything thats happening... I don’t want anyone getting hurt”
"I don’t want to lose anyone else either… Vincent I don’t know what to do…" Marlene couldn’t fight the tears any longer and just let them fall.

Oh no… oh no no no, Vincent watched in slight horror as Marlene somewhat listened to him, and now Vincent really had no idea what he was meant to do, how did he talk to the girl in a way that didn’t make her cry even more than now? He swallowed down, moving slightly as he stood. He’d seen Tifa do something like this many times with both Marlene and Denzel, but mostly when one of them fell, or cut themselves or something similar to that, but this? This was new territory, and Vincent really didn’t want to make Marlene more upset, nor leave her in this state.
He moved closer, his human hand moving to her head softly, the way an older brother might try to comfort his younger sister. Kneeling down before Marlene, his hand moved to wipe the small drops of water from her face, a soft somewhat serene look on his face,
“Come now little one…” He tilted his head as his hand moved to his own knee, looking into those innocent eyes, needing to say something… anything to help the situation, but knowing his talking abilities… talking wasn’t going to help much,
“I know how you feel… even if it doesn’t show, no one really knows what to do…” He sighed softly, thinking over the entire situation. With Sephiroth returning, his attack on Tifa, and this growing sense of dread that was, each day, drawing nearer to them, nearer to Midgar. He’d told Cloud about it, in a somewhat… round the topic kind of way, Cloud already had enough to worry about, and the last thing anyone wanted was Cloud leaving now to another world to stop this darkness.
“But there is one thing…” He tilted his head softly, biting his lip as he took a small breath, “Let out what makes you feel confused, just… yell it out… it will make you stronger when you ensure that what hurts you has been dealt with…” He sighed once more, knowing that he didn’t make too much sense, but he hoped that Marlene, been the smartest little girl he’d ever met, would piece together what he was trying to say,
“I mean… well… I don’t really know what I mean…”
