Kairi stood there looking out at sea. She recalled the time when she used to stand there along the shore waiting for her best friends Sora and Riku to return home. Although it was just one year it seemed like an eternity for Kairi but she never gave up and always believed that her friends would return and now they finally have.
The wind blew gently as the waves crashed on the shoreline. She smiled brushing her hair behind her ear and turned around to look at the island. Kairi was the first one up and so the only one on that island for now but she hoped that her friends would show up soon. The place wasn’t the same without them and they always made her laugh.
She moved to sit on a paopu tree her favorite place, Kairi just laid back a little and watched the view of the sunrise. The worlds were at peace now and she hoped things would remain that way for a while. She was planning on enjoying her time back home with her friends as much as she could but if another adventure came along Kairi wasn’t going to sit that one out but join in as well.

Somehow Lightning ended up on a strange island. How did she come to be here? She sighed glancing around the small island and noticed a girl dressed in pink. She was sitting on one of the tree branches looking at the sun setting.
Lightning walked up to the girl but she remained silent. She seemed to be fifteen and so she didn't want to startle her. However Lightning had no idea who she was looking at.

Sleeping in was the best. Ever.
On the road, Sora hadn't had much time to do that. Goofy woke up like clockwork and would patiently but firmly rouse both Donald and Sora, forage for breakfast, and lead the the three of them until Sora woke up enough to concentrate.
So when he finally did wake up Sora shot upward, pale, and looked around for them both. What are we doing who are we fighting where are we did we find out anything about Riku and the K... He stopped short.
The island breeze blew in from the window and toyed with his sleep-matted hair.
...I'm home.
This couldn't be reality, this was the dream he hadn't yet woken up from and in a minute Goofy would shake his shoulder and any hope of seeing Kairi and Riku would dissolve, except...
This is real. I know it is.
He rubbed his eyes just in case, mentally going back over finding home again and the past few days in paradise, and glanced at the clock. "Aw--crap!" Kairi would've left for the islands an hour and a half ago! Vaulting up and changing in a whirlwind of brown spikes and skinny limbs, he dragged a brush through his hair and nearly killed the poor thing before thudding downstairs to pull on his shoes. His boat was at the small harbor, looking relatively lonely as most of the kids were probably already at the islands, and it felt odd to be rowing in it again. It wasn't too small to contain him but it'd definitely grown smaller, and rowing to the island didn't take nearly as long as it used to. He was out of it almost the minute it bumped the dock, glancing around for Kairi.
Not here--?!
No--no, he was just overreacting--there she was on the paopu tree. Calming, Sora headed up through the Seaside Shack and waved to her once he reached the walkway. "Morning, Kairi!"
He stopped short, blinking at the stranger who had gotten to Kairi first, and quickened his steps to reach Kairi's side. "...Hey there. Are you from the islands?" After all, it'd been a while since he was a permanent resident of anywhere--and he couldn't be sure who was an islander and who wasn't anymore.

Kairi's eyes closed for a few seconds to enjoy feeling the gentle breeze on her skin. For how long has she waited for this,to be home with her friends? Now that she finally got her wish she was going to make up for the past and spend as much time with them as she could.
There was movement beside her and Kairi instantly opened her eyes and turned to see who it was. A young woman was standing in front of her. Some one she has never seen before and sure that she wasn't one of the islands residents.
Still Kairi smiled at the strainer and jumped off the branch to greet her, but before she could introduce herself a familiar voice called her name. "Sora" she said smiling brightly once she saw him run to her side.
"Your new here aren't you?" She asked once Sora was done. Unlike her friends Kairi was only gone for a short time so she knew most of the residents of Destiny Islands.

Lightning saw the girl jump off the branch and walked over to greet her. The girl was smiling but Lightning didn't return that. She wasn't the type to smile anyways. The girl did seemed friendly but Lightning was always cautious and rarely trusted anyone she met and she had her reasons.
Just before either one of them can say anything, Lightning heard a boy's voice and turned to find one running towards them. Those two knew each other so Lightning a summed they were friends. She shook her head at the first question and nodded at the next. "No I am from a different world. I finished a mission and was on my way home but somehow the portal that was suppose to take me back led me here" She explained but only gave a few details away.

The instant the stranger said she was from another world, Sora knifed in between her and Kairi. It was good and well to meet new people when he was out alone or with Riku, Donald, or Goofy, but Kairi was a liability if it came to a fight and Sora would protect her before he thought of himself or a stranger.
Even so, he made the motion look natural enough and nodded in acknowledgment. "Really? I'm Sora. Traveling different worlds is more or less my thing," he added with a bright, disarmingly cheery grin. "And right here is Destiny Islands. Where were you trying to get to? Maybe I can help," he suggested. While letting people besides himself, Donald, Goofy, Mickey, and Riku aboard the Gummi ship was technically not allowed, if the stranger had been displaced from another world Sora had a responsibility to return them to it and maintain the world order. The fact that the stranger could portal, though, had him a bit on edge. Not everyone with that ability was evil, but it had been a staple of the Organization and Sora made a point of never trusting its members.

Kairi saw Sora step in between her and the woman. She knew that he was trying to protect her, but she didn’t believe that the one standing in front of them was there to harm her or Sora. Was she over trusting of people?
Maybe that is because Kairi hasn’t been to other worlds as much as Sora did. The times she did were either with her being unconscious or taken as a prisoner so Sora probably knew more and she trusted his judgment.
Kairi waited till he was done to introduced herself. "Hello I am Kairi. Me and Sora both live here on this island. You said you walked into a portal and that led you here… can’t you just open another one to return home." Kairi just assumed that things worked that way with portals but she really knew nothing about them.

Lightning saw the reaction of the boy Sora. She glanced to the girl to see she had a different expression but now those two were cautious around her. What was it that changed this atmosphere? Was it mentioned that she was from another world or that she could teleport?
Lightning sighed crossing her arms as she glanced at the two for a few seconds. "I take it that you two don’t trust me now. Is it the fact that I can teleport? Well I am on neither side and used both light and darkness as my shield" she glanced down at her weapon, the gunsword she was carrying. "As for this I only carry it for defense. I am not here looking for a fight but a way home."
Lightning paused when the girl introduced herself "Kairi…" She was sure she heard that name before but had no idea where. "I am…" What should she say? Lightning had no name that she could recall. Her mind was blank as she forgot everything about her past including her name. "Lightning" She quickly replied Lightning was her codename but for now it would do.
She shook her head at Kairi’s question "No it’s not that easy. You can open a portal but you cannot always specify exactly where it should take you. Sometimes there are interferences so you end up in a different world like this time." Lightning sighed letting her hands drop down to her side.
"I could try again but taking the risk of winding somewhere else… not so sure I want that. It will be my last resort." She waited to hear their ideas or if there was a quicker and more secure way she take to return to her home world.

A pained expression flickered across Sora's face briefly at that. He hadn't really meant to be so obvious, but having Kairi there made him nervous. "...If you've been out there, in the other worlds, then you know how it is," he said finally, slowly. "This world isn't used to being visited. We don't have defenses like some of the others, so we have to be careful." He inclined his head slightly in a nod, not quite as enthusiastic as the ones he'd give Donald or Goofy or Riku or Kairi. "I believe you, though." I don't trust you, but I believe you.
He shot a glance behind him at Kairi, curious as to what she made of all this. He really didn't want to be taking a stranger on board the Gummi ship, but it was starting to look like he wouldn't have any other choice. "What world are you from?" he asked, turning his eyes back on Lightning, as she called herself. Sora wasn't sure if it was her real name at first, the way she'd said it, but he knew a man named Cloud and another who used to go by Squall so he didn't ask questions.

"Sora…?" Kairi had a feeling that he wasn’t sure about helping Lightning. She turned to glance at her stepping out from behind Sora. Lightning really did seem that she meant no harm and only wanted to return home. She really wanted to help Lightning. Kairi was just that type who would lend a hand to anyone that needed it.
Kairi also knew how it was like to be lost in another world and unable to return home. She was kidnapped once and not being able to return home or find her friends was the worst for her.
After hearing her name Kairi’s expression changed. The way she said it was as if she knew her, but Kairi was certain that they have never met before. So the only question was did Lightning know who she was?

"Well at least you believe me." Lightning didn't blame Sora after all she was not too trusting herself. and was always cautious when it came to meeting new people. "My world Cocoon. I really need to get there before things get out of hand." That was all the information she gave. She wasn't about to reveal who she was but now after hearing both their names fragments of her memories returned only to remind he who the ones standing in front of her were.
"The kyeblade master and the princes of hearts. now I remember..." Time was ticking for her. Lightning knew that and her world was in danger. She left in a critical time that was why she needed to return and willing to accept help from strangers when normally she wouldn't. "Well Sora Kairi what do you say?"

"Princess?" Sora scoffed. "Kairi's not a--"
Oh...wait.
Yes, she was.
Sora took a moment to kick himself mentally. "...Right, sorry," he said with a rueful grin back at Kairi--but she'd moved to his side. That was fine, but the fact that Lightning knew about them both was not fine.
Plenty of people had heard of the Keybearer. Not quite as many were aware of the Princesses of Heart. But not everyone knew the Keybearer happened to be a brown-haired kid named Sora and very few people still alive knew that one of the Princesses was a redhead by the name of Kairi. Not only that, but Sora was a personal friend of most of the people who knew his identity, and he'd never met this Lightning person before or drawn the Keyblade in front of her. Something in her eyes told him she had no intention of harming them, but she kept giving him reasons to be concerned.
"Alright," he said, hesitating and looking up at Lightning with conflicting emotions in his eyes. "I can help. But I wanna know how you know who we are," he said more firmly, shifting. He was so close to Kairi that his arm gently bumped against hers, but he was too focused on Lightning to notice.

"How did you…?" Kairi was surprised when Lightning mentioned that she was a princes of hearts. She only found out a year ago herself and she wasn’t aware that the information about who she was got out. And not everyone knew who the keyblade master was. There was something Lightning wasn't telling them
Kairi saw Sora move closer to her till their arms bumped against eachother. She knew he was trying to protect her if anything was to happen. He and Riku were always there to save her whenever she was in danger. "Sora…" She said turning to give him a concerned look. Was she right to trust Lightning. She wasn’t sure of anything now and was worried that everything they heard was a lie.

Lightning sighed crossing her arms again. She didn’t expect this reaction. "Maybe I shouldn’t have said that. I just wanted to show you that I didn’t attack despite knowing who you were. Thought that might earn some trust not turn things against me."
She paused to think of an answer. Clearly Kairi and Sora were suspicious of her now but what they wanted to know she couldn’t give. If they knew the truth would they even care to help? Back home some considered her a hero while others a dark omen who was about to bring the worlds end. She had both powers of darkness and light what did that say?
"Alright I will only say this. Being who I am I try to be updated about everything. I heard of your heroic deeds and so I search for more information and asked around. A lot knew you two so it wasn’t hard to learn this."

Sora hesitated. That was true, and many of his enemies wouldn't have taken the time to recognize him to his face before beginning their assault--unless they were out to manipulate him. He couldn't be sure one way or another about this one, but his gut said to believe her, and so he did. Enough people knew him that she could uncover that if she asked around--Kairi, though...Kairi was harder to swallow. Most of the other Princesses were well known, high up in their worlds and applicable in others like Hollow Bastion and Traverse Town. But Kairi was just an islander, as anonymous as Selphie, except for what was written in Jiminy's journal. Sora knew it couldn't have reached the other worlds. There were rules against all that, but it was possible--not likely, but possible that Lightning had gone to Disney Castle or met someone from there. Maybe Goofy, he thought. He knew the Captain of the Guard had his heart in the right place, but sometimes Goofy was a little too forthcoming with information.
It was settled, then. They could find Cocoon by Gummi ship, problem fixed, crisis averted. "Okay. I believe you," he added--both an assurance and a warning. "The Gummi ship's over this way," he said to Lightning, nodding towards the Seaside Shack. "Kairi, I'll be back soon, okay? Tell Riku I've gone to find a place called Cocoon," he told her. Like everything, this would be dangerous--and if it turned out to be a trap, Riku and the others would come after him.
